Real world
A short meditation on stepping away from a screen filled with chaos.
At my desk: uncertainty. I force a smile for my webcam and carry on. Do what I need to do. Connect with others through my screen. Share my fears, and listen to theirs.
Remember to eat. Remember to drink water. Remember to breathe.
Remember this isn’t everything; there’s a real world out there that (mercifully) has nothing to do with any of this.
Log off, step outside, and let the real world rush in:
icy evening air
the smell of my neighbor’s woodstove
an almost-full moon over my head
frogs singing relentlessly, leaves rustling
pillows of moss and mushrooms underfoot
the delicious squeeze of a hug from my person
a deep breath, a cleansing exhale
a prayer of gratitude for this/him/my senses
